Some Artwork

It's been a while, huh?

It's been a long time since I did a self-portrait.
Does this even count?

Life's just taken a hold, busy with trying to cement my future and all.  Of course, I'm still making some artwork, although some of it isn't my usual work.

My girlfriend has been away at a programming "boot camp", so I've been more inspired to draw cutesy things to keep our morale up while we're apart.  Most of my doodles and sketches are in my books, so they don't get documented digitally very often but the ones worth showing do appear on here, as with my previous posts.

Post Otakon 2014

Otakon 21 was a blast!

Artist Alley Table Z-03 was a HUGE success!

I attended Otakon 2014 once again with Rachel's Rupees and it was just a hella lot of fun and did extremely well! In fact, we nearly sold out of all of the plushies!
We struggled, huffed and puffed, sweated and crawled into the Artist Alley with 6 bags full of pillows and plushes and came out with one half!

Thank you to everyone who came by the table, bought a print and/or a plushie!

Returning to Zeldanime

It's been over a year since we completed Episode 1 of Zeldanime
I'm returning to it, at last!

Here's a sneak peek of what's coming:

Lady Butterfly

Latest Artwork - Lady Butterfly

My girlfriend asked me to have a cameo in Zeldanime but at that point, most of the pages had already been drawn and there was no scene I could have put her character in where it would be seen significantly.  Since I haven't been able to work on the main comic, there just wasn't a place I could put her.

Instead, I drew an illustration and designed her character cameo as a countess, Lady Butterfly.

Back to Otakon Artist Alley and More Sketches

I'm going back to Otakon!

I got lucky and got a spot in the Artist Alley for Otakon 2014!
Like last year, I'll be selling prints, Memehats, and Tivara (a short, original comic).  I'll be making a few changes so that I won't run into the same issues.  I'll have some new prints and I'll also be doing on-the-spot commissions!

Come see me and Rachel's Rupees at Table Z-03!

It's been a while since my last post, and I've done a few things since.  So, along with a short update on my Otakon situation and plans, I also have a few pieces of art at the bottom.

Sketchbook Post 2

More Sketches and Doodles -

Last month (April) I started doing a daily challenge where I took a list (two, actually) of things to draw such as landscapes, characters, figures, studies, and so on--mixed in various styles.  I've been trying to get into different things, learn new styles, and of course just practice with figures and other studies.

I started strong, some things got in the way and it wasn't very consistent after the first week...

However, I still sketch a lot and posted some of the better ones here.
(Some of you might've seen these already on my Twitter or Tumblr.)

More to come!

Happy 3-year Anniversary

Happy Anniversary to my wonderful girlfriend, Rachel!

I've been with Rachel of Rachel's Rupees for three years now, crazy how fast it's been!

Quick background/story, I was introduced (sort of) to Rachel by a mutual friend, then we ended up having a painting class together in college.  Took her to the Cherry Blossom Festival in DC and asked her out...after we left DC.

Anyway, this is a painting I did for her to celebrate.

Happy 3-years!

Sketchbook Post 1

Artwork that doesn't get seen often - Sketches & Doodles

I don't show of my concept sketches or doodles very often, mostly because they're in a sketchbook and documenting them is kind of a hassle because the quality will be bad from a photograph or it doesn't fit well in the scanner, so usually I keep these things to myself.

However, looking through some of my work, I see that my finished work is rather limited compared to what I am fully capable of.  So I wanted to show off a couple of my drawings from my sketchbooks.

There's lots of Zeldanime sketches and concepts, some projects that I have in the making or that I want to do like the "Dark Knight Beyond", a reboot of some characters for a game that my friend and I never got to finish, and some random doodles of random people.

Take a look, hope you like 'em! :

Katsucon XX - 2014

A view of the Gaylord Atrium and Garden
I've only attended a few conventions in my life, the one I've been to the most is Otakon back in 2000, 2002, and I think 2004, but it's been so long I can't even remember.

It wasn't until last summer that I started attending more cons, mainly to promote myself and/or Zeldanime, and of course to have fun and get immersed in that subculture.  As you may have read from my last post, I attended Otakon 2013, and this past January to kick-off the new year, I attended MAGFest.

This past weekend, I attended Katsucon!

Happy [Fourth] Anniversary for the Zeldanime Project

Happy Anniversary, Zeldanime! - 4 Years

Zeldanime started back in 2009 after I wrote to my friend and partner Monette (Crazyfreak) to revive and continue the Zeldanime series she was doing.  Back then, Zeldanime was a series of illustrations that looked like "snapshots", as if it was an actual anime series.
Link by Crazyfreak - 2007
After a few years, lots of hard work, interruptions, school, work, personal business, we finally finished Episode 1 in May 2013 with over 110 pages, side-projects and illustrations on the side.

This post is about our experience with Zeldanime.

Hello Blogging World

I am OniChild

"Oni" 2009

Greetings!

You may have heard of my name before, probably as a Zelda fan-artist way back when fan-sites were all the range in the early 2000's.  Since then, I started drawing my own comics with original characters and stories such as "Oni" (currently in development) and worked on some other projects for friends and clients.

Here I am to share my artwork, process, experience, frustrations, tips, interests and findings, and anything else that might help your own art-making or something that's simply interesting.

My first tip:
Always doodle/sketch, and always practice.
